Autopilot

Signal to Other Drivers That Autopilot is Engaged

There are numerous situations where it might be helpful to other drivers to know when Autopilot is engaged. One suggestion is to borrow from the popular 80's show, Knight Rider, and add an indicator light to the vehicle to signal that Autopilot is on. Some people suggested using the center brake light.

Safety

Seatbelt / Airbag PSI / Data Collection

When I was a kid, I was involved in a really bad car crash that almost cost me my life because I wasn't wearing a seatlbelt, and the airbag impact gave me anxiety for the rest of my life.

I eventually patented a seatbelt design that used sensors in seat to take weight of the passenger, the belts themselves measured the circumference of the passenger to estimate airbag engagement. Using the data collected from the seat... more »

Safety

Rear Camera frequency change

With most cars having LED headlights it seems we are being pulled over by the police.

It would be great if the screen refresh was quicker (or slower) than most LED's to avoid the panic situation of thinking there is an emergency vehicle behind you while displaying the rear camera onscreen.

Emergency services

Hey guys, it would be great if you could somehow coordinate with emergency services so they could select a destination route which would update any cars travelling along that route that an emergency vehicle will be approaching sometime shortly. therefore advising the driver to pull over to the left hand Lane and clear the space

Convenience

Service Appointments

I brought my car in for a service appointment. It has been sitting in the lot for 5 days. I suggest that for service issues that do not effect the safety or drivability of the car, once an appointment has been booked and the nature of the service confirmed, that the Service manager calls or texts for the car 12 hours before it is due for work to be done.

Show speed of vehicle in front

One thing I really liked from my Volvo was the speed indicator showed three values in a very clever way.

- my actual speed

- my programmed speed

- and the speed of the vehicle in front of me

It was nice when approaching a slower vehicle to see just how much slower that vehicle is going. That info allows me to decide to switch lanes and pass or just ride along at that speed if it's only a little bit slower.

Ps-Volvo's... more »

Safety

Caution Front Brake Lights

Caution front brake lights work just like the rear brake lights do but they only when your turn signals are on. This lets oncoming traffic see when your going to turn left or right in front of them. This also lets pedestrians know when it is safe to cross the crosswalk letting them know when your going to make your turn. This is my patented idea that I have on my truck and people will step back onto the curb when they... more »

External startup warning for pets

I propose that Tesla vehicles have a switchable external sound so that when you get in the car and are about to move, it emits a sound to warn any pets that may be sleeping under the car (usually cats but some small dogs). ICE cars chase them away when the engine starts.

I'd hate to run over a furry friend because they didn't know the car was about to move.

Safety

Rear fog lights

Add rear fog lights like the Model X has for all vehicles. In fog or heavy rain, dust, etc, the only thing other safe way to drive slowly is with flashers on, and no one should have to drive in a way that prevents them from using turn indicators. These should come on automatically when an object approaches quickly from the rear and/or when the highest frequency state of the windshield wipers is active.

Safety

Integrated Brake Controller

Applies to all models capable of towing, but particularly to the CyberTruck and Model X. Right now, the Model X has the wiring connections for installing a 3rd party brake controller for towing trailers with their own braking system. The brake controller is recommended for trailers over 1000 lbs. The best brake controllers activate the trailer brakes gradually based on accelerometers built into the units so it can match... more »

Intelligent Alerts on Cameras not Working

I'm living country-side, and each time I drive at night, I get constant alerts from the M3 that the side cameras are covered or not working. I get it - it's dark outside (pitch dark), and as the cameras can't see anything, they assume they're not working.

Would it be possible to link the error reporting to the front camera/light sensor, so that the car knows of this scenario and are less sensitive to the issue when driving... more »

Modes

Model 3 switch to Standard mode when accelerating in Chill mode

For the Model 3 it needs to be much simpler to switch from chill mode to standard mode when you want to overtake quickly. I much prefer to drive in chill mode as I find it is a much nicer journey experience for the rest of the passengers, but it would be great if Tesla could get the car to detect the accelerator being depressed fully and automatically switch to standard mode until it is eased off, then revert to chill... more »
