Extreme braking in the event of a collision

In addition to conventional braking systems, an extreme braking mode could be used in cases where a frontal collision of the vehicle is unavoidable.

The technology for such braking consists of well-known systems and is usable for single use only. Roughly speaking, the system is very similar to air bag technology, and the purpose of the system is to reduce the mass of the collision.

In a frontal collision, only the front... more »

Reduce unnecessary brake light activation trending idea

After seeing several videos of angry motorbike riders taking out their frustration on Teslas, I wonder if part of the reason is the activation of brake lights whenever the accelerator pedal is released.

As a lifelong manual driver I have always been careful to change down rather than brake to avoid annoying the drivers behind. I find it most embarrassing that, in my Tesla, I am constantly flashing my brake lights even... more »

Autopilot

Tesla needs to detect cars stopped/slowing down ahead earlier

While on autopilot the Tesla needs to start braking way earlier than it currently does. At red lights in particular it keeps on the accelerator way too long and then slams the Regen and/or brakes to hard to stop.

The car should gently let off the accelerator early if it detects a stopped car ahead anticipating it having to do a full stop. The gradual slow down instead of a jerky last second stop will make people feel... more »

Brakes and Always Leave and Out trending idea

Brake lights seem to be an issue in some Tesla accidents. The Tesla is rear ended.

Regenerative braking in my Model Y works very similarly to the way I used to brake in my other vehicles - with one huge exception: no brake lights going on. (My son almost drove into a car that was parked 2 feet from the curb in an English town. I was being the typical American dad-passenger and watching and it fooled me too.

Modes

Winter driving mode

Have a button on the screen when temperatures fall below e.g. 4 degrees C to set winter mode: reduce regen brake, chill mode on, and whatever other settings improve safe driving on ice and snow.

Edit:

-set wipers up higher (like service mode) so the wipers can be kept warm and don't freeze

Add small Resistor on All Models for Regen Braking in cold

Idea is to add a small electrical resistance to absorb the charge burst from Regen Braking in the cold weather, or when the battery cannot take the charge. Ideally, this load can be a small heater, which warms the car or even drivers seat, or just a led light. Can be made hilarious by sounding a screech sound or fart!!!!

Regen braking otherwise will result in charging the battery when warm enough or accepting the charge.... more »

Integrated Brake Controller

Applies to all models capable of towing, but particularly to the CyberTruck and Model X. Right now, the Model X has the wiring connections for installing a 3rd party brake controller for towing trailers with their own braking system. The brake controller is recommended for trailers over 1000 lbs. The best brake controllers activate the trailer brakes gradually based on accelerometers built into the units so it can match... more »

More control over regen braking

I would love to have more manual input to the regen braking while driving. As a long-time manual driver who lives in the mountains I find it very hard on the leg to constantly feather the accelerator while dropping down long, winding descents.

The current regen mode does not allow for prolonged gliding or sharper regen when entering sharp bends, similar to changing down gears.

If we could have three or even four levels... more »

Hybrid with KE turbine or compressed air

Gasoline ICE/battery electric hybrid vehicles improved on the efficiency of gasoline ICE vehicles by

*using technology with more efficient power output

*recovering more kinetic energy

*permitting stored energy to increase peak output

Battery electric/kinetic energy turbine hybrids or battery electric/compressed air hybrids might could improve on the efficiency of battery electric vehicles by the latter two methods,... more »
