Autopilot

Signal to Other Drivers That Autopilot is Engaged

There are numerous situations where it might be helpful to other drivers to know when Autopilot is engaged. One suggestion is to borrow from the popular 80's show, Knight Rider, and add an indicator light to the vehicle to signal that Autopilot is on. Some people suggested using the center brake light.

AI Needs Vitals of driver to move to complete autonomy

As title suggest it seems like heart rate of driver is vital amount of data for the cars AI to not be aware of, It could be a FitBit Tesla watch that could even be the keys. Along with that when its in range of car if driver had and Emergency, or is in danger it could contact the proper authority's and get help based off vitals and AI being what it is with cameras it could even possibly diagnose who to call…..I do not... more »

Modes

Add a "learn" mode to teach the car to do something. Unverified Translation

Every day, on the way home, I pass through an area in which the autopilot does not work correctly, even having to correct it so as not to have an accident.

Once I get home, my vehicle never recognizes my parking space.

I would like to be able to activate a "learning" mode by voice command.

Once this mode is activated, for a preset time, the car will learn how to deal with a situation, and it will adapt it for the autopilot.... more »

Manually adjust center-left-right position in auto parking Edited

Autopark usually center the car in the available place, no matter if the position is not centered between the lines. That is not the preferable option in whole of the cases.

It would be better if the driver could select the side to be fitted to, tapping the preferred side in the picture of the car and the blue lines.

That is specially important if you made recurrent parkings in the same places, so it would be a function... more »

Speed mode definable and reduction in front of the board Unverified Translation

The speed regulation in Model 3 still leaves something to be desired and should be optimized.

1. In general it is not clear why and when it works and when it does not. Sometimes it works, sometimes not ... The function should be definable (button in the display) so that you can be sure that it always works no matter when the cruise control / autopilot was activated.

2. Signs are not recognized or it only seems to work... more »

Seatbelt / Airbag PSI / Data Collection

When I was a kid, I was involved in a really bad car crash that almost cost me my life because I wasn't wearing a seatlbelt, and the airbag impact gave me anxiety for the rest of my life.

I eventually patented a seatbelt design that used sensors in seat to take weight of the passenger, the belts themselves measured the circumference of the passenger to estimate airbag engagement. Using the data collected from the seat... more »

Emergency Lane mode for Autopilot on traffic jams

In Germany it is legally required to create an emergency lane between the leftmost lane and the one next to it when vehicles are stopped on the highway or move at crawling pace.

Create a mode for Autopilot in its menu, or a virtual button to tap on the screen when encountering a traffic jam, where if it detects it is driving on the leftmost lane, it will follow the car ahead like usual, but before stopping, it will try... more »

Autopilot

commute caravan

Would it be possible to create a type of "commute caravan" option or mode, and would it be safer/easier/efficient? Where vehicles that are opted in to the mode can link with other opted in vehicles along the same route and create or join a "caravan"? Possible benefits:

- share cameras across caravan for overall traffic safety and awareness
- "drafting" to create power efficiency
- optimize power/braking efficiency across... more »

AP Should Create a "Rescue Alley" When in Traffic Jams

When navigating through a sluggish rolling traffic jam (which the sensors recognize), it would be great if the autopilot would default to "stay the most left or right depending on the lane you are in". To allow the passing of rescue vehicles. We call this a "Rettungsgasse" in German that translates to "evacuation alley". Right now I need to steer manually to stay tucked to the side of the lane which is really annoying... more »

Autopilot

Reversion to loud sound and flashing when steering not twitched.

I have an early model S. The car made a great fuss when the wheel was not held when the Autopilot was engaged. That was not a problem back then since the autopilot steering could be jerky so one needed to supervise it. Now that the autopilot steering is much improved it is necessary to twitch the wheel to convey to the Autopilot that the driver is holding the wheel. Unfortunately the warning when you forget to twitch... more »

Touchscreen

HOV Button in Nav Summary

An HOV on/off button next to the "navigate on autopilot" button so that it's clear whether or not the system is targeting HOV lanes in its route planning.

Navigate on Autopilot does some confusing route planning if you forget to turn off HOV preferences in the Nav options and it's not immediately obvious. A top-level button would make this more clear.

Caution Front Brake Lights

Caution front brake lights work just like the rear brake lights do but they only when your turn signals are on. This lets oncoming traffic see when your going to turn left or right in front of them. This also lets pedestrians know when it is safe to cross the crosswalk letting them know when your going to make your turn. This is my patented idea that I have on my truck and people will step back onto the curb when they... more »
